Burn It, Break It, Blow It Up, Make It Bleed!

Special Effects in Movies Redux!

2PM JUNE 2 at QP

Can you tell which item is real?  Know Jay Stone who is playing with bricks is real!  And he has graciously offered to give this presentation to QP again! He created the presentation for familiarizing local fire departments with the techniques of special effects but great for anyone to understand how movie special effects are done, and how explosives and fire are handled on a movie set. The talk covers the sequence of events for a car explosion, the choreographed sequence for a bullet hit and the process of setting something on fire over and over again while maintaining the original structure.

The images and recordings are of films made in New England. Many of these are of tests supplied to the director for approval. There is also a sampling of props and samples of products used to create the illusions that might not be obvious.

Jay Stone, a long time QP member, is also a special effects and fireworks licensed technician and has worked in the film and stage industry for fifty years.  Jay’s most recent QP credit was constructing the new QP logo for the front of the house,  as he is also a major prop builder in New England.

QP is opening Jay’s presentation up to our friends in community theaters and patrons who might be interested!  And trust me, it very interesting!  All we ask is for a donation to QP. Every donation counts!
