Quality community theater on Boston’s North Shore

Our Theater

The Porch - 2017

The Quannapowitt Players, Inc. mission is to produce quality and affordable theater, encouraging the arts in our community.

The Quannapowitt Players rehearse and perform on the ancestral lands of the Pawtucket people of the Massachusett tribe, whose name was appropriated by this Commonwealth. We also acknowledge that our organization is named for Lake Quannapowitt, whose name was derived and appropriated from the Native American Quonopohit of the Naumkeag people. We honor these communities as the original caretakers of this land, as well as honoring the diverse and vibrant Native communities who are still connected to the land on which we gather. We recognize this acknowledgement is insufficient and does not undo the harm done through colonization, violence, and injustice, and we commit to ongoing efforts to learn more and strengthen our relationships with all members of our local community. We would also like to thank the Reading Public Library for their research into this important local history.

QP has provided this quality community theater for over 85 years in a converted historic 1853 Little Red School House in the town of Reading  Massachusetts. Our delightful black-box performance space, with intimate seating for 150 patrons, has full handicap accessibility and parking.

QP mounts four full productions each year, with a balanced season of comedy, mystery, drama and farce, so there is something for everyone!  We guarantee you will be delighted by the talent and craftsmanship of our performers and designers.

We are an all-volunteer organization – from our actors who are featured on stage as well as the designers who build, light and produce the stage “magic.” Our volunteer membership is comprised of approximately 100 thespians, and our ticket sales/season subscription base is over 500 patrons. Our membership comes from all walks of life, and we prosper from the diversity these dedicated people bring to our theater.

QP is a proud member of Arts Reading,  American Association of Community Theaters (AACT), and Eastern Massachusetts Association of Community Theater (EMACT),

If you would like to join us in creating great theater please see the Membership description below.  We hold quarterly membership meetings, generally on the first Friday night of the month. Meetings are open to all members, and anyone interested in joining in the fun with us!
